Domino’s Pizza shows way with app technology

DOMINO’S Pizza has been praised for its innovative app technology, which helps customers to order the company’s food via their mobiles.

The fast-food company picked up the Best Food & Cooking award at Carphone Warehouse Appys 2012, which celebrates new app technology.

The Domino app, which is available for for iOS and Android operating systems, was selected by Carphone Warehouse Staff, then placed before a panel of judges and finally put before a public vote.

Other entries into the category were apps from Jamie’s Recipes, BBC Good Food Healthy Recipes, Epicurious and Gordon Ramsay’s Cook With Me.

Dave Masters, online features editor of The Sun and judge at the event, said the Domino’s app provided an example to other retailers on how to sell food online.

“Domino’s Pizza is how takeaway apps on your iPad should be. Mouthwatering menus with a slick and simple display. It should be used along with a screen cover as it may induce dribbling,” he said.

Meanwhile Simon Wallis, sales and marketing director of Domino’s Pizza, was delighted by the victory.

“We’re over the moon to have scooped this top award for our ordering app,” said Wallis.

“We’re always looking for convenient new ways for our customers to order and to receive this accolade is truly amazing.

“Mobile currently accounts for 14% of online sales and download figures for our apps continue to grow.

“We’re sure this trend is set to continue – especially with this prestigious Appy award now under our belts.”
