Affiliate Windows has released a new plug-in designed to help eCommerce companies comply with the latest European Union (EU) directive on e-privacy.
The company has released a cookie management tool, which enables website users to manage their own privacy settings and find out how they are being tracked.
The latest EU privacy directive, known colloquially as the ‘cookie law’, requires website owners to gain ‘implied consent’ before they install cookies on to their users’ computers.
Affiliate says its tool will achieve this level of compliance by enabling users to manage their own privacy settings and control how a site’s cookies are used.
The free plug-in is available to all publishers and can be installed simply within a few minutes, the company says.
Affilate says users will be presented with a dashboard, which will offer them the opportunity to find out how they are being tracked.
However, there are no ‘opt-in’ or ‘opt-out’ buttons, which Affiliate says it has chosen to do as it wishes to focus on informing consumers while “minimising potential lost revenue” for its customers.
“When faced with the challenge of providing a technical solution for our publishers we knew that it had to be something that reached beyond our own interests,” said Peter Loveday, chief technology officer for Affiliate Window.
“The tool is designed to be configured and extended, meaning it can be a total privacy solution for publishers.”
