At the root of every eCommerce business is the host. Here we talk to Peer 1 about its data centre services.
Please tell me about your business
We provide managed hosting, dedicated servers, co-location, and cloud computing, serving more than 13,000 customers globally from 20 data centres located across the US, Canada and the UK. Our goal is to build the IT infrastructure solutions that enable businesses to thrive online.
Where we achieve this and set ourselves apart is the quality of our technologies and overall customer experience. This is what we refer to as Ping & People.
Who is the product aimed at?
Our services cater to all businesses from start-ups right the way through to large enterprises like WordPress.com. We can support the hosting requirements of pretty much anyone.
What are the benefits for an eCommerce business?
We have key alliances with eCommerce platforms like Magento and Oracle ATG that offer businesses performance optimised, cost effective, all-in-one eCommerce infrastructure solutions.
Successful eCommerce is dependent on a smooth and enjoyable experience and as such, it is crucial to have speed and dependency from all aspects of the environment including the network, hardware and software. We can contribute to a significant reduction in bounce rates and empty shopping carts, which improve sales and your Google quality scores and rankings.
How much does it cost?
Every solution is a custom configuration that is based on a business’ unique needs and wants, and we charge based purely on actual bandwidth use for maximum flexibility.
How does it work?
We offer co-location, dedicated servers, managed hosting services, private cloud services, cloud storage, hosted email and cloud-based HPC (High Performance Computing). We manage and monitor over 15,000 miles of 10Gbps dedicated network fibre to deliver high throughput and packet-per-second capability. We built the network through a series of dedicated links between all 20 of our data centres using multiple high-speed connections.
Take me step-by-step through how I buy and install it
For businesses seeking an eCommerce hosting solution, you are put in touch with a sales engineer from one of our Magento or Oracle ATG eCommerce partners and advised on the most suitable solution.
What do I need to do once it is set up?
That depends on the services purchased. For example, our co-location services allow customers to set up their own servers within a large data centre facility to take advantage of its power, network redundancy and physical security advantages, while retaining full management control.
Dedicated server hosting is also available, which gives customers the option of selected servers to lease in dedicated racks, benefiting not only from the added computing capacity, but also outsourcing network security and infrastructure management to the data centre.
At the same time, the customer manages all applications installed on the servers. Our managed hosting services provide comprehensive management that includes us deploying, configuring, patching, troubleshooting and managing all leased servers, operating systems and infrastructure.
