Interview: Dominic Keen of MoPowered

MopoweredMobile is the next frontier in eCommerce, but small businesses with limited budgets are reluctant to splash out on an expensive mobile-optimised website. Dominic Keen, CEO of Mopowered, thinks he has the solution.

What is Mopowered?

MoPowered is a mobile commerce service that allows businesses that are already trading online to better convert the web traffic they receive from mobile devices.

Why did you feel the need to invent it?

We had been working with large retailers such as Next and HMV and realised that the costs in setting up a mobile commerce channel were prohibitive for smaller merchants.

However, in many cases, the business case for going mobile was very compelling for these companies as at least 15% of their web traffic now comes from mobile devices.

A recent survey we commissioned revealed that nearly nine in 10 retailers understood that mCommerce is essential to their business, but 76% had not built a mobile website.

Chief among their hesitancy were concerns over payment security and expense. We sought to overcome these issues, because small businesses need to be a part of this step-change in eCommerce retailing.

Separate stats show that about half the population owns a smartphone and that 64% of those use their devices to shop online – it just shows how important this is.

What is the benefit for small, growing businesses?
