More traffic to your ecommerce site means more sales. It’s as simple as that; so here are four simple techniques to boost your traffic.

Key to winning new business in ecommerce is traffic. While there are no silver bullets to double your traffic, there are tricks that can help. Here are four tried-and-tested ways:
1. Register spelling mistakes
What spelling mistakes do people make when searching for your products? This is a tried-and-tested technique for boosting traffic on ecommerce sites.
Try to ensure that you do not lose potential customers through typos – register spelling mistakes for some of your keywords on Google AdWords, for example. (Verucca/verruca, accomodation/accommodation, Caribbean, Carribean, etc.)
2. Work with others
A good technique to boost your traffic is to find a partner who has a similar-sized business to yours (as long as you are not direct competitors!) in a contra deal.
For example, arrange with them to advertise to their email database, and vice versa. You’ll want to advertise an online offer that consumers will find appealing – so be sure that it is promotional and attractive to people not familiar with your brand.
3. Offer promotions
By offering a promotion – 50 per cent off, free stuff, BOGOF – you can attract new customers. Everyone loves a bargain or a freebie, so sometimes it is worth investing in a promotion that delivers new long-term customers. This is the “Groupon” phenomenon, where once consumers have bitten via a promotion, you can reel them in again and again.
4. Be active on social media
The importance of having a social media presence cannot be understated. Whether it’s by joining Twitter or Facebook, or even just starting a blog on your own website, new customers will find their way to your ecommerce website.
It also helps to build credibility. Consumers are increasingly savvy at researching your business in advance: engage with these potential customers, boost your traffic and win more business.
