Around seven in 10 mobile searchers call businesses directly from Google search results. It goes without saying, then, that e-retailers need to feature a click-to-call button if they want to optimise sales leads.

Click to call is an extension of Google Adwords and Google Maps (Google Places for Business/ Google + Business Pages) that allows customers to call businesses directly from search results at the click of a button.
How do I get customers to call directly from a Google search?
You can add a click to call phone number in your paid ads by enabling the call extension feature in your AdWords campaigns, or easily add a number to your Google Places for Business account. Google state that having a click-to-call phone number is an extremely important feature for people looking to find information and encourages purchases.
The experts say click-to-call makes it easier for everyone
Click to call ad extensions can be easily set up in Google Adwords via Campaigns > Ad Group > Ad Extensions > Call Extensions and are customisable to only show during your hours of operation, 9am until 5pm for example. Click to call ads typically cost the same as a normal Adwords click for the targeted keyword. Adding a phone number to your Google Places for Business account couldn’t be easier, in fact – you’ve probably already done it. Well done, you!
Is it time to focus on the phone?
According to recent research by Ipsos (on behalf of Google), 70% of mobile searchers use Google’s click to call feature, which equates to 40 million calls per month from search ads, thus revealing that a direct means of voice communication (a phone call) remains a vital element in stimulating consumer confidence and satisfaction.
In a current blog article the search engine, Yahoo, have reinforced Google’s discoveries and observably suggest “when 70% of mobile searchers call, it’s time to focus on the phone”.
The recent study explored the behaviour of a sample 3000 people across various market sectors including: travel and hospitality, banking and finance, restaurant, retail, technology, local services and automotive. Across all seven markets, it is found that calls are most important to mobile searchers who are researching into their purchase (52%) or ready to buy (61%).
Why do customers prefer to call?
The key motives for people calling a business as opposed to using a website or other means included: a) It’s quick to get an answer and accomplish their goal, b) people like to talk to a real person, and c) customers have more questions that require information than a website can offer.
So, if you want to capitalise on the ever present need by consumers to get direct, assured and an ‘in the moment’ desire to speak with a potential supplier, then why not take the same actions as your customers and talk to Tripudio, who can assist you in the quick and valuable deployment of Google’s click-to-call ad extensions across any country you wish, including any new international markets you may want to enter.
