Finding new customers is not as hard as you think it is. Here are five tips for winning new customers for your ecommerce business.
The more traffic you attract to your website, the more customers you will win. It’s as simple as that. Here are five ways to gain new visitors:
1. Define your target customers
Deciding on targeting women aged 20-30 isn’t enough. You need to be as precise as possible so that you do not waste any marketing on irrelevant audiences. Decide what sort of customer you are after – there are four main criteria to look at:
- demographics (age, gender, income, etc);
- psychographics (personality type, expressed preferences, etc);
- geographics (where they are located);
- behaviour (do they share similar likes and dislikes, etc).
Work this information out and you will have a buyer profile for you to target.
2. Social media
Facebook, Twitter, Google+ – these are all avenues for you to promote your ecommerce business. Best of all, it’s usually free to do so. Just set aside 20 minutes each day to publish updates to the various social media sites. It’s important to maintain your online presence and engage with current and potential customers.
But be careful not to JUST promote your ecommerce business, as that will turn people off. Mix promotional updates with interesting and relevant articles and interacting with followers.
3. SEO
Strong SEO (search engine optimisation) can be a very effective way for you to attract new customers to your ecommerce business. Optimise your website with strong, relevant keywords and ensure your website is reaching your target audience.
4. A good website
Having a website that has strong and clean design will ensure that new visitors don’t click away from your website. The look and feel of your website is the first thing that site visitors notice. Make sure it’s easy to navigate and to buy from; this will encourage visitors to turn into customers.
5. Don’t just sell
You should not think of your ecommerce business as an online store at all. Think of it as a content site that happens to sell products. Just like a blog, with strong content, word will spread and more people will visit your website and, eventually, buy from you.
